Houston Private Collection Restorer Oil Painting Conservation 19th Century
You can see how dirty the painting was by this image that we captured as we began cleaning the painting.
Our client is the great grandson of Italian artist, Virgilio Tojetti. In fact, his family was known for being a family of famous Italian-American artists.
He bought this painting by his great grandfather from an auction. The painting is about 125 years old. He said he brought it to us because he said he wouldn’t trust anyone else with it and that our restorations always have exceeded his expectations.
He mentioned that the painting was yellow and dark. It was covered with a dark yellow film and had some paint loss.
We restored the damaged paint layer, cleaned the grime off of the surface and aged varnish that covered the paint layer.
The client mentioned that this restoration returned the painting to the original condition and turned out as beautiful as the other two paintings that we had restored for him in the past.
