Restore Oil Painting Art Houston Torn Rip Missing Paint Creases

The client said, “Wow! It looks great! I am amazed. It is beautiful now! I love it!”.

And now the rest of the story of how Life on the Wall Fine Art Restoration Houston received this oil painting to restore this piece of art in Houston that was torn, had a rip, missing paint, creases and was detached from the stretcher bar.

Our client’s painting was completely off the stretcher, plus it had a rip in it.

The client bought the painting about 25 years ago at an antique shop. He wanted to get it restored for decades. He was researching it and found a postcard with the painting’s image on eBay and it is coming to Houston from Berlin, Germany. The postcard was from the late 1930’s/early 1940’s in a place called Carlsbad.

The fine art restoration process began with an examination of the painting. Maris inspected it for damage and other issues. The resulting analysis guided Maris as he restored each area of damage and returned the piece to its original appearance.

Cleaning was necessary because of the grime and aged varnish on the painting’s surface. Maris used solvents and specialized cleaning solutions to reveal the original colors and textures without damaging the original paint layers. Various tools were used for this with the wisdom to recognize the type of varnish previously used.

For the physical damage, such as the tear and missing paint where the canvas was separated from the stretcher bar, Maris made structural repairs. This involved reinforcing the canvas, filling, in-painting and securing the loose canvas.
