Houston Repairing Oil Painting Large Areas of Missing Paint, Water Damage, Missing Paint, Paint Loss

Our client brought this painting in for restoration.   It had suffered significant damage during a flood.

Restoration Overview

Our client expressed deep gratitude for the restoration of this portrait damaged by floodwaters from the Guadalupe River during the July 4th floods. The artwork had been submerged in six feet of water, leaving them covered in mud and moisture-related damage.

Condition and Results

  • Before Restoration: The paintings were described as “muddy” and heavily impacted by humidity. There was significant “paint loss” and “chipping away,” making the owner uncertain if it was even repairable.
  • After Restoration: The client highlighted that the skin tones and overall beauty of the piece has been fully restored, effectively bringing them “back to life”.

Artist and Legacy

The portrait of the client was originally painted by her grandmother, who was one of the founders of the Hill Country Arts Foundation. Because of the successful restoration, the client plans to share Life on the Wall’s contact information with the Arts Foundation and others in the Hill Country area who have lost artwork to similar damage.
